A HISTORIC High Street pub and hotel has gone up for sale, with a price tag of £1.25m.

The Bull Hotel in Burford, West Oxfordshire, is now on the market after its owners decided to take retirement.

As a former coaching inn dating back to the 15th century, its counts Lord Nelson, Lady Hamilton, King Charles II and his mistress Nell Gwynne among its previous VIP guests.

Peter Brunt, a hotels director at Colliers International, which is overseeing the sale, described the town as a 'mecca for thousands of tourists every year.'

Oxford Mail:

He said: "Burford has always been busy - from the late 17th and 18th centuries when it was a thriving stop on the route to Cheltenham and Wales from London, to today as a tourist magnet.

"The Bull has always prospered from the trade its superb location can generate.

"With a prominent position in the middle of the High Street, The Bull offers plenty of old world charm with huge stone fireplaces in the public areas and some of the bedrooms.

"If you are looking for comfortable and stylish, four poster accommodation, you will not be disappointed."

The Grade II listed hotel houses 18 guest bedrooms, including three in the former stables and garage at the back, plus staff accommodation.

Mr Brunt said the staff accommodation could also be converted in to five letting rooms, subject to planning permissions, and said the building would 'readily convert to B&B use.'

Oxford Mail:

It had sales of £603,000 in the year ending 2018 and Mr Brunt said there was 'great scope' to increase trade under new ownership.

The current owners bought the business from Greene King in 2009 and set about a major refurbishment project.

It boasts 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor, with more than 700 reviews.
