HERE is a round-up of some of the sentencing hearings held at Oxford Crown Court this week.
Monday
Two teenagers who left a man for dead and in a pool of blood after a 'senseless and unprovoked' knife attack on the streets of Oxford were jailed.
The public gallery was packed as Ethan Broster, 18, and a 16-year old who cannot be named for legal reasons were jailed for more than 20 years between them for the night of violence.
Tuesday
A depraved stalker who preyed on a woman during a six-month campaign of abuse, bombarding her with hundreds of violent, threatening messages, was jailed.
Gareth Clatworthy sent his victim more than 500 messages calling her a 'whore', a 'b**ch', and a 'chemical filled bag of ugly flesh' during his reign of terror after their virtual love affair came to an end.
Thursday
A man was repeatedly punched by a gang of robbers while sitting outside Oxford’s historic Bodleian Library.
Three men were sentenced in connection with the brutal city centre attack.
Richard Curley, 36, and Daniel Lowing, 41, both of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the single count of robbery.
A third man - Clayton Goldstone, 19, of George Street, Banbury, admitted handling stolen goods in relation to the theft of a phone during the robbery.
Friday
AN army veteran crippled by post-traumatic stress disorder after serving overseas tried to end his life during an armed stand-off with police.
Fortunately, armed officers showed ‘great restraint’ and managed to talk Mark Tarling down during his failed attempt to commit ‘suicide-by-cop'.
The 42-year-old of Elderfield Road, Bicester, appeared via videolink at Oxford Crown Court for sentencing after admitting one count of possession of an air rifle with intent to cause fear of violence.
