A SCHOOL has raised more than £3,100 to fund a mural celebrating its diversity.

Cheney School in Headington

launched the JustGiving appeal at the start of May

, aiming to raise £5,000 for the art installation on its assembly hall wall.

Year 11 students came up with the idea after

racist graffiti was sprayed on the same wall in March

, saying they wanted to paint something in its place.

A letter penned by the pupils said they felt they would otherwise be 'tainted by the memory of those symbols of hate.'
