IS bad parking a nightmare where you live?

For months on end pavement parking in Oxford has been feircely debated - with residents, groups and councillors outraged by the fact that motorists are still getting away with it, despite the dangers.

However, some claim the rules are too harsh and sometimes it might be safer to park on the cobbles.

Oxford Mail:

In April, a national inquriry was launched in to putting a stop to drivers parking their wheels on the kerb.

They invited people to share their experiences and suggest solution as to parking on pavements could be tackled.

Oxford Mail:

We went to Headington to investigate - and spoke with councillor Roz Smith who said that lining the pavements with bollards might be the only solution.

Oxford Mail:

But the issue isn't just exclusive to Headington but is a persistent issue across the whole county.

As it is, there is no national ban against either on-street parking or pavement parking except in the latter case in the capital.

However, it is an offence to drive onto the pavement - with the intention to park or not.

Last month, Oxfordshire councillors said they want to keep parking on pavements.

Because this is a criminal offence, as opposed to the vast majority of civil parking offences, it is enforceable by the police, not councils.
