HERE is a round-up of some of the sentencing hearings held at Oxford Crown Court this week.
Thursday
A prolific sex offender who repeatedly flouted court orders banning him from interacting with children was jailed.
Oliver Fitzroy, of no fixed abode, had been made subject to a sexual offence protection order on May 2015 preventing him from having contact with children.
It followed a previous conviction of a number of offences dating back to 1974 including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and attempted buggery.
A LAW student who spun a web of lies in order to get out of a speeding ticket, was spared jail ‘in exceptional circumstances’.
Vanessa Cooke, of Combe Road in Stonesfield, near Witney, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice when her car was seen speeding at 53mph in a 30mph zone.
The mother-of-four was found to have falsely put forward her uncle as the driver of the car at the time it was caught speeding.
Friday
A pair of drunken thugs who carried out a 'disgusting' pub attack which saw one man repeatedly smashed in the head with a pint glass, were jailed.
Jason Tripp, 30, of Larkhill Road, Abingdon, and Luke Berry, 31, of Taylor Close, Faringdon, appeared for sentencing at Oxford Crown Court.
Tripp had been convicted after trial of wounding with intent and threatening to damage or destroy property but admitted assault.
Berry admitted affray for his part in the night of violence which took place at pubs across Abingdon on January 20 last year.
