A SECOND "No Cold Caller Zone" is being set up in Henley-on-Thames to combat distraction burglaries and rogue traders.

The flats at the end of Harpsden Road and War Memorial Place have been identified as a priority area due to the ongoing problems residents have been experiencing in terms of burglaries and high pressure selling.

As a result, Oxfordshire trading standards, in partnership with the South Oxfordshire Community Safety Partnership and Thames Valley Police is introducing a No Cold Calling Zone' on Tuesday, October 30.

Residents voted in favour of introducing the zone, which is being funded by the South Oxfordshire Community Safety Partnership and the War Memorial Place Residents Association.

A "No Cold Caller Zone" is an area where potential cold callers are advised they are unwelcome and should not enter. From the end of October street signs will be in place at both entrance points to the neighbourhood. Should any seller still decide to call, the advice is they should be treated with suspicion and Trading Standards or the police should be contacted. Everyone in the zone is given a pack about bogus callers and rogue traders together with a door sticker explaining the scheme.

Henley Crime Reduction Advisor, Julia Wheeler said: "Some cold callers prey on residents, particularly the vulnerable and elderly in order to trick money out of them and there is a clear link between bogus callers and burglaries. Results of other No Cold Calling Zones around the country have shown a reduction in both burglaries and fear of crime."
