TK MAXX opened its doors to a crowd of excited shoppers in Oxford's Clarendon Centre this morning.

Bargain hunters waited outside the brand new store as its opened its doors for the first time and cut a ceremonial ribbon.

The chain's main offer is cut price designer clothes.

The city centre shop will fill the space left by Spanish clothing brand Zara, which moved out of the shopping centre to move to the Westgate.

The unit spans 1,013 square metres and will house a range of departments including accessories, home, kids, men, women, shoes, toys and jewellery.

In a statement, TK Maxx said: “We are delighted to finally open our doors to the shoppers of Oxford.

"We greeted a large queue of excited customers this morning as they headed in to discover the big labels and designer gems."

It continued: "The rapidly changing assortments creates the treasure hunt shopping experience that our customers love and we are so excited to share it with Oxford.

"We encourage shoppers to stop by often to find the latest designer fashion and unique gems on offer, always at amazing value.”

Opening hours at the store are 9am - 7pm (Monday to Saturday) and 11am to 5pm (Sunday).

The development has created 40 new jobs for the area, according to TK Maxx.

The company already has a store at Templars shopping park in Cowley.

It boasts that all of its products are available at 60 per cent less than the RRP, and a significant discount to the price in a department store or on the high street, every single day.
