RESIDENTS have until the end of Friday to share their views on proposed changes to the A40 near Burford.

Oxfordshire County Council is planning to make alterations to the A40 and B4020 Shilton Road after an application to build 91 homes and a care complex in the area was approved earlier this month.

The development is set to be built on land west of Shilton Road, opposite Burford Garden Centre.

The council is proposing to extend the 30mph speed limit on Shilton Road, south of the junction with the A40.

This would be increased by 170m, replacing the current 60mph national speed limit on the stretch.

A series of traffic calming features are also planned for Shilton Road, with speed cushions implemented at 100m intervals for 500m.

The council also wants to install traffic lights as part of a signalised crossing 150m west of the junction on the A40.

Residents have until midnight on Friday to comment on the proposals online.

The controversial housing development was approved on May 1, despite several groups raising concerns about the site.

West Oxfordshire District Council received 427 objections to the proposal when it was rejected in 2015, with Burford Golf Club, the Burford Chamber of Trade and Burford Garden Company among those against the site.

The scheme included a care and retirement complex featuring a 90-bed care home and 78 assisted or supported living homes, although these numbers were revised down to 64 and 59 respectively.

Fifty per cent of homes would be affordable and split into three areas of the site, while the care home design is 'inspired' by a manor house and house designs 'dictated' by the look of Cotswold buildings.
