BANBURY MP Victoria Prentis has said she wants Rory Stewart to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister.
She wrote on Twitter: "Rory is the person we need to unify the country & the party & deliver Brexit quickly.
"He has the track record, energy & the ideas. Decency and pragmatism are at the heart of his approach."
Eton-educated Mr Stewart, 46, is currently the international development secretary. He was appointed to the role earlier this month after serving as prisons minister from January 2018.
Mr Stewart said he was 'very honoured' to have Mrs Prentis' support.
He is one of 11 candidates who had put their names forward yesterday afternoon. They include favourite – and former Henley MP – Boris Johnson, environment secretary Michael Gove, home secretary Sajid Javid and foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt.
