VANDALS caused misery for hundreds of families on one of the hottest days of the year when they dyed an outside pool's water purple.

Families had to be turned away from Hinksey Outdoor Pool in 2007 after the incident which left the entire pool tinged purple.

It was left looking like a vat of Ribena after an unknown substance was put in the water on the Friday night and discovered the next morning.

At the time, David Rundle, deputy leader of Oxford City Council, said: "Everybody is shocked. They can't believe somebody would be so mean."

It was the second time in a fortnight that the pool had been targeted by vandals, and it had to be closed for a number of weeks to resolve the problem.
