A NEW guide for youngsters detailing activities in Wallingford has been published - including unicycling, diving, and sailing - with much of the information coming from the young people themselves.

The Directory of Youth Activity and Sport lists 65 organisations in Wallingford, or within easy reach, and covers everything from youth clubs to sports organisations, arts groups to choirs and theatres.

It was launched by the Rock Solid Youth Club, at Wallingford Baptist Church, after being designed and produced by Wallingford School with printing funded by the town council.

The guide will be given free to students at Wallingford School and all children in the area in their final year at primary or junior school, as well as being available in libraries, at the town information centre and in youth centres.

Organiser Amanda Holland, the Wallingford area extended schools co-ordinator, said: "Lots of people from the community helped to create the booklet.

"It will be given free to students at Wallingford School and all children in the area in their final year at primary and junior schools.

"It will be available in libraries, at Wallingford town information centre and in youth centres.

"The best thing about this booklet is that many of the activities in it were suggested by young people themselves who wanted to share their interests with other young people."

Mrs Holland along with three youngsters presented their ideas to the town council and got enthusiastic backing.

Mrs Holland told the town council: "I was a bit surprised at how much is going on in Wallingford.

"There is everything from traditional sports clubs to unicycling, diving, riding, sailing and theatre - a wealth of opportunities open to everyone.

"This booklet should open up many new avenues of activities to more and more young people in the town."
