A MAN was fatally struck by a train on railway tracks near Abingdon yesterday.

British Transport Police issued a witness appeal this morning after the man, estimated to be 70 years old, was hit near Culham station.

Officers were called to the line at 2.54am yesterday, and discovered the man's body.

His death is being treated as 'unexplained.'

DCI Tim Tubbs said: "An investigation is under way and enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and the circumstances leading up to his death.

"The man is believed to be approximately 70 years old with grey, balding hair and he was wearing a black coat.

"This incident is currently being treated as unexplained and I would like to ask anyone with information to please contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting incident number 75 of 19/05/2019."

Trains between Oxford and Didcot Parkway were held at about 7am yesterday due to a 'police incident,' but it is not clear if this was linked.
