A MAN who repeatedly smashed a San Miguel pint glass over a reveller's head during a drunken pub brawl has been convicted.

Jason Tripp, of Larkhill Road, Abingdon, had denied one count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one of threatening to destroy or damage property.

Prosecutors at his trial at Oxford Crown Court said that the 30-year old had embarked on a night of 'drunken and violent behaviour' at two pubs in the Abingdon area on the night of January 20 last year.

Tripp's first act of aggression happened at the Boundary House pub, Oxford Road, where he and a friend were both asked to leave.

He then threatened the assistant manager of the pub, Ashleigh Whitehead-Bedding, saying he would 'burn down her house' and that he 'knew where she lived'.

Not long after Tripp and another man - Luke Berry, of Taylor Close, Faringdon -went to the College Oak pub, Peachcroft Road, and were again asked to leave.

A brawl broke out and during that fight the second victim - Lee Sheridan - was repeatedly hit in the head with a pint glass.

Describing the violence he said that 'blood was pouring into both eyes' and that he was struck up to four times with the glass.

Despite denying the two counts jurors unanimously convicted him of both counts after two hours and 40 minutes of deliberations yesterday.

The case was adjourned so that his co-defendant - Berry, who admitted a count of affray - can also be sentenced.

They will both appear on May 31.
