Lou Lou's Vintage Fair to return to Oxford this weekend

Meticulously-made millinery, era-evoking eyewear and eye-catching clothing will fill the main room at Oxford Town Hall tomorrow.

The one-day-only event is expecting to attract about 1,500 people hoping to roll back the years and sift out a bargain.

There will be all sorts of pieces covering a variety of eras starting from the 1940s all the way through to the 1980s.

Event creator Lou Lou Glover said: “Oxford is by far one of our favourite fairs.

“We have an amazing following here, and always pull out all the stops to provide our customers with some of the best vintage the country has to offer.

“I think vintage has become so popular lately as we’ve all become more aware of the impact that buying new, fast fashion has on the environment and our wallets.

“Buying vintage is the affordable and environmentally conscious way to shop, while also being able to get something unique and fashionable.”

More than 40 vintage traders will pack out the historic town hall’s ballroom providing the perfect backdrop for the nostalgic event.

Among the traders are Chota Bazaar which will be selling all sorts of homeware from old-fashioned house phones to perfume bottles, silver trinket boxes and ceramics.

Another trader joining the pack is The Emporium of Loveliness with its charity shop vintage clothing, accessories and haberdashery.

The vintage traders will offer everything from quality and affordable clothing, accessories, homeware, and collectables.

Those wishing to look the part can get their hair done in traditional styles, and a makeover from the past from the event’s pop-up beauty salon.

Vintage Victory Rollers will once again be running the vintage beauty parlour for shoppers looking to get into character.

People will be able to get styled like their favourite starlet, with pin curls, victory rolls, and skyscraping beehives.

For a taste of the past and a chance to refuel amid all the bargain hunting there will also be the vintage tea room.

This includes Pear of Peas who will provide the perfect tea break with their signature homemade cakes, served up on antique china in a pop-up tearoom.

The jam-packed event billed as the country’s ‘best vintage fair’ will run from midday to 5pm at town hall.

The event advert online says: “Our Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair in Oxford is one of our most popular and takes place in the town hall on St. Aldate’s, which is about as central as it gets.

“It’s a stunning historical building with two rooms of great vintage shopping.

“It’s been used as a library, police station and hospital and now it hosts our lovely vintage fairs.”

The fair is a regular feature on the Oxford calendar and last year attracted more than 1,500 people throughout the day.

It is £2.50 on the door and under-12s go free.
