COPS are hunting a pair of fire maniacs who deliberately torched a £60,000 car twice at the same address in Airdrie.

At around 5am on Monday, two male teens entered the driveway of a property in Wallace Street before smashing the window of a white BMW X6 before throwing a lit accelerant inside the vehicle.

The following morning, around 4.35am, the same youths entered the driveway of the same property before smashing another window and tthrowing a lit accelerant again, causing significant damage.

Both times the yobs made off in the direction of Jarvie Avenue. The car sustained minor smoke and fire damage.

Fortunately no one was injured but neighbours are said to have been left "terrified" by the incidents. 

Appealing for information, Detective Constable Craig McLean said:"These incidents were terrifying for the residents of the property to experience and it is only by sheer luck that no one was injured in either incident.

"Whilst our enquiries so far suggest that these incidents were targeted and not random, this doesn’t make it any less serious. I would ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around the time of any of the incidents to contact us with any information they have.

"Wallace Street is very residential with a number of properties in the vicinity so I am confident that there will be someone in the area who may have witnessed one of these or both of these incidents."
