A WOMAN who spun a complex web of deceit in order to get out of a speeding ticket has been convicted.

Vanessa Cooke, of Rye Grass, Woodstock had denied one count of perverting the course of public justice.

Prosecutors at Oxford Crown Court told jurors during the trial that the 41-year old had submitted a false 'section 172' form, nominating her uncle as the driver when her car was seen speeding at 53 mph in a 30 mph area.

To support her claim, the court heard, she said that her son had been injured at school and her uncle had rushed to pick him up. Forms purporting to be from the school and sent to investigators, included the date of the speeding on the A44 near Blenheim Palace - February 6, 2017.

However, the school maintained that the injury happened on February 10.

Jurors saw through her denial and convicted her by a majority verdict yesterday after four hours and 32 minutes. She will be sentenced at the same court on May 30.
