A RECORD number of runners are ready to take on the Oxford Town and Gown race.

About 5,000 people have signed up to take part tomorrow - the biggest number in the annual event's 38-year history.

The race is funded and organised by Muscular Dystrophy UK charity, with support this year from sponsor Newton.
