A CAT was rescued from underneath a shed by firefighters and returned to its grateful owner.

Crews from Wantage fire station were called to save the animal in distress at just before 1pm yesterday.

They arrived to find the feline stuck underneath the shed at a home in Mary Whipple Court, but formulated a rescue plan.

Firefighters lifted the shed using battery operated spreaders as a rescue tool, while one member of the crew ensured the structure remained stable and no damage was done.
