COPS are probing the “unexplained” death of a woman whose body was found in a back garden.

The grim discovery was made by a neighbour in Albert Road, Govanhill, on Saturday around 2.40pm.

Two police officers stood guard inside the close yesterday and sealed off the entrance to the inside of the flat as an investigation was under way.

Horrified locals claimed the woman’s body was found beside bins in the back garden of the flats near Queen’s Park.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s really scary and shocking.

“One of the neighbours was taking the rubbish out and apparently saw the body and phoned the police.

“I live just round the corner and there was loads of police and forensics in white suits who arrived shortly afterwards.

“I think it was a young woman who was found but nobody seems to know exactly what happened to her.

“I hope nothing sinister has happened because it’s right next to where Moira Jones was killed about 10 years ago.”

Eleven years ago, businesswoman Moira Jones was found dead in Queen’s Park.

The 40-year-old businesswoman was abducted, raped and murdered by Marek Harcar between May 28 and 29, 2008.

Her murder and the case around it left an indelible mark on the South Side area and on her distraught loved ones.

A worker at Queen’s Cafe near the flat said yesterday: “We were really busy that day so we had no idea what had happened and just saw the police.

“A tent was pitched outside where the body was found on Saturday next to bins.”

He added: “It’s very tragic.”
