WORK forged ahead in 1961 to get the Donnington Bridge built.
The pictures show the build-up of materials on the Oxford bank and the mid-stream construction which started the creation of the bridge many of us now use every day.
The build process was not a straightforward one as bad weather delayed work.
But as construction workers forged ahead through the late 1960 and into 1961 the bridge steadily provided a connection across the River Thames.
The new road bridge was expected to cost about £400,000 to build at the time.
