POLICE have warned that a 'large number' of animal rights campaigners are expected to protest in Oxford this afternoon.
The demonstration, at Oxpens Park, marks World Day for Animals in Laboratories and will include guest speakers and a march.
The national event is being brought to the city this year partly to draw attention to Oxford University’s record on animal testing.
Activists say the institution carries out tests on more animals than any other university.

Organisers of the march call animal testing ‘wasteful, costly and cruel’.
It takes place from 1pm to 4pm, with Mansfield Road closed between 2pm and 2.30pm.
Members of the public have been asked to 'plan accordingly'.
