FAMOUS characters will step out from the storybook pages and into the streets of Oxford.

The Story Museum has announced a new programme of whimsical walking tours, led by much-loved figures from the literary world.

Retracing well-known stories through locations across Oxford, each walk will be themed around tales including Alice’s Adventure’s In Wonderland, The Wind In The Willows and Aesop’s Fables.

Families will be encouraged to get involved, with each one-hour walk featuring puzzles, games and crowd interaction.

The first 'summer story walk' takes place this Saturday, with a The Wind In The Willows theme.

Walks are suitable for children aged three and older, and begin at 10.45am from the museum in Pembroke Street.

Wheelchairs and pushchairs are welcome and the routes pass some of Oxford's most iconic landmarks, with stories told along the way.

So far walks have been scheduled on the last Saturday of each month until August.

The museum's communications manager David Gibb said: "As the days get longer and the weather gets hotter, this is perfect way for children and families to see the city of Oxford through fresh eyes, taking a story home with them at the end of the day."

Tickets cost £4.50 per person and must be booked in advance - visit the Story Museum's website for details and dates.
