A POPULAR fun run many feared could be lost forever when the charity behind it disbanded last year is set to return this summer.

The Bagley Wood Fun Run will take place on Sunday, July 21 after the Friends of St Swithun’s stepped in to continue the Kennington event.

It was previously organised for 28 years by Kennington Overseas Aid, which formally disbanded in September after 50 years raising more than £500,000 for good causes.

All of the profits from the 2019 5k run will go towards funding St Swithun’s Primary School in the village to pay for resources for the children.

It will start at 10.30am from Forest Side Park in Kennington, before entering the ancient woodland of Bagley Woods for five kilometres.

The fun run is open to adults and children, though those under 15 must run with a registered adult to take part.

There will be event medals for all the children, as well as awards for the winners in each category.

More details on how to register will be available soon.

After the 2018 run Sylfest Muldal from KOA said he hoped that a group with ‘fresh ideas’ would come forward and keep the Bagley Wood Fun Run going as it had become something of an institution in the village.

He said: “With how it has built up over the years we would love to see someone come along and carry it on."
