The results of this year's competition were announced this morning, with one pub or bar championed per county.

The Trout in Buckland Marsh, between the A420 and Bampton, describes itself as a 'true country inn.'

Its seasonal menu features many fish dishes, owing to its location next to the River Thames.

The pubs were selected on 'overall best practice across a number of operational categories.'

They will be officially crowned at a red carpet celebration at BAFTA 195 in London on Wednesday, May 22.

The ceremony will be hosted by restaurant critic Jay Rayner, and will also see 15 regional winners announced as well as the overall national pub or bar of the Year.

Just two weeks ago The Trout was also named among several Oxfordshire pubs in a new 'Best of England' guide.

The guide described it as a 'treasure chest of an Oxfordshire inn' with 'stone fireplaces and timber beams.'

Last year the pub was also listed by The Times as one of the nation's best 'pubs for summer,' alongside The Miller at Goring at The Wild Rabbit at Kingham.

Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which runs the National Pub & Bar Awards, said selecting the winners was 'nothing short of inspiring.'

He added:"From idyllic countryside pubs to inner city cocktail bars, this is the most eclectic and exciting industry in the world.

"It’s a privilege to help these businesses get the recognition they deserve."
