ONE of Oxford’s oldest pubs The Grapes will be ready to open after Easter.

West Berkshire Brewery has bought the lease of the George Street hostelry from The City Pub Company.

The pub has been closed for refurbishment but will reopen on Tuesday, April 23.

After contractors painted the pub’s exterior a bright blue, it has now been painted a darker shade of blue.

Pub manager Romy Hewitt, 25, said: “I liked the bright blue but in the end we have chosen a darker shade, which is closer to purple.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming customers on April 23 from 10.30am.”

The pub, which was painted green before the refurbishment, will sell craft beer and there will also be bar snacks including pork and chorizo meatballs.
