ANOTHER high-street giant is shutting its doors in Cornmarket Street and making the move inside the Westgate Centre.

Luxury beauty brand L’Occitane, which is known for its hand creams and bright yellow store front, will be swinging open its doors in one of the shopping centre's empty units.

It is thought they will open up close to the Bonn Square entrance, next door to the newly-opened Urban Outfitters.

A spokesperson for the brand confirmed the news that it was leaving Cornmarket Street.

Oxford Mail:

They said: "The old store is being assigned to another retailer and will close the day before the new store in Oxford Westgate opens."

It comes after concern for the future of Cornmarket Street was raised by shoppers and members of the council, when shop units were vacated by national chains like Next, River Island and Lush which also made the move.

Oxford Mail:

Plans were uncovered when the chain submitted plans to Oxford City Council to revamp the unit at 1D.

Developers want to kit out the insides with oak-wood finishings and limestone tiled flooring.

If the council gives them the green light, the shop will be designed to match the chain's 100 other shops.

In the plans they explained: "The furniture is light oak hardwood on brown metal frame, with yellow matt lacquered joinery and glass."

At the front, shoppers will be welcomed in with its iconic sign – a white and blue lit-up sign and yellow metallic backdrop.
