A BOY was hit with a pole and chased with a knife during a harrowing group attack in a Banbury park.

The 15-year-old victim was also punched in the face and hurled with racist insults and threats to kill during the ordeal, after which a boy aged just 14 was arrested by police.

Thames Valley Police said the attack happened in Hardwick Park on Tuesday, March 28, and they believe a dog walker could be vital to the investigation. 

The force said the victim was walking alone at about 6.30pm, when he was approached by three 'youths.'

A statement issued this afternoon said: "During the attack the victim was punched in the face, hit on the head with a wooden pole, subjected to racial abuse and threats to kill.

"As he ran away the offenders chased him with a knife. The victim suffered a nose bleed but did not require hospital treatment."

Investigating officer, PC Gabbey-Cristofini, based at Banbury police station, said: "This was an extremely frightening experience for the victim.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed this to please come forward.

"In particular I would like to hear from a woman who was walking a dog in Hardwick Park at the time of the incident, as she may information vital to our investigation."

A 14-year-old boy from Banbury was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment, possession of a bladed article and racially-aggravated threats to kill.

He has been bailed to appear on April 16 at Banbury police station.
