A SCHOOL plagued by its dilapidated building has closed once again due to emergency repairs.
Northfield School in Blackbird Leys, which has previously struggled with asbestos issues on site, did not open to pupils today and will remain closed until two days after the Easter holidays.
The special school teaches boys aged 10-18 who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
Most schools in Oxfordshire break up for Easter today and return on April 23.
However, Northfield will remain shut until Thursday, April 25, to allow for the completion of the repairs.
The school was plunged into special measures after being rated 'inadequate' by Ofsted in December, which raised issue with racism, fighting, ‘illegal’ exclusions and financial deficit at the school.
Oxfordshire County Council's school closures page states: "Northfield School is closed today due to emergency works needing to be carried out."
The school's website shared a similar message yesterday, warning parents that the school will be closed tomorrow [today] for 'emergency building repairs.'
It adds: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Pupils at the school were displaced last year after an asbestos ceiling was damaged, causing safety concerns.
The county council considered closing the school altogether but, following a backlash, instead decided to replace the building with a new £9.5m complex.
