OXFORDSHIRE has the third lowest smoking rate in the South East but according to data, smokers in the county are not so good at quitting.

Data not only shows the highest rates of smoking in the South East but also the success rates of quitting.

Oxfordshire's smoking prevalence scored 10.7 per cent meanwhile the quit success rate is 2.65 per cent.

England's average quit rate is 2.07 per cent.

The area with the best quit success rate is Milton Keynes, which scored 5.07 per cent.

The data has been collated by Vape Club, an online retailer of vape kits and e-liquid, and sourced from Public Health England from NHS ‘quit smoking’ services.

Oxfordshire is doing better than other areas in the region such as Southampton which has the third highest smoking rate in the South East and also the lowest percentage of successful quitters, with a rate of 1.07 per cent.

The quit rate is based on services that are provided by the NHS but Vape Club believes that vaping can be a better way to help people give up the habit.

Dan Marchant, founder of Vape Club and a board member of the UK Vaping Industry Association, said: "Vaping gives a real alternative to traditional smoking cessation products, and as the study shows they are actually twice as effective.

"It is fantastic to see organisations such as Public Health England and the NHS embrace the public health breakthrough that is vaping, but we still have a long way to go to get this message out to the remaining 7.4million smokers in the UK."

According to Public Health England, vaping may be contributing to at least 20,000 smokers quitting every year.
