ANOTHER man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in East Oxford.

A 42-year-old from Oxford was this morning arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender following the death of Luciano Dos Santos Almeida, who was attacked on Southfield Road on February 27.

Mr Almeida was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital after he was hit by a car and stabbed, but he died from systemic complications due to stab wounds on March 6.

The man arrested this morning remains in police custody.

Mr Dos Santos, aged 22, was from Southampton. 

Four men have since been charged with murder in relation to his death, and appeared at Oxford Crown Court on March 11.

Michael Yemane, aged 20, of South Bridge Row, Oxford, Welid Solomon, aged 25, of Field Avenue, Oxford, Sasan Mohammed Khalid, aged 19, of no fixed abode, and Safeen Abdullah Karimi, of Hode Garth, Thame, were all charged with one count of murder and were remanded in custody.

They are due to next appear for a plea hearing and trial preparation on Friday, April 5 and a provisional date for any trial has been set for September, 2.

The court expects this could last between four and six weeks.

Southfield Road, off Cowley Road, was cordoned off after the stabbing, which happened at about 11.20pm on February 27.

The victim's mother, Carla Dos Santos, later released a tribute to her son.

She said: “Twenty two years ago the Lord blessed me with the most beautiful gift I could ever have wished for, my beautiful baby boy, my first love Luciano was born. Words can’t describe the feeling of losing a child."
