AN ABINGDON couple who met on the dance floor have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Ron and Gill Millward first met at the Dujon dance hall in Bedford, marrying after three proposals at the St Peter De Merton Church, Bedford, on March 21, 1959.
Following several moves - including renovating an old pig farm in Alton, Hampshire - the couple settled in Abingdon during the mid 1970s, with their sons, Nigel, Anthony and Craig.
Mr Millward, 83, pursued a career in building supplies and financial services, whilst Mrs Millward, 84, supported the activities of St Helen's Church being a part of the young wives group and flower arranging, until she started work at Abingdon College.

Mr Millward also became involved with the Tythe Farm Residents Association.
The couple attribute the success of their marriage to the 'occasional' compromise.
Although the couple are keen caravanners, the occasion was marked by a family hotel break with their three sons, daughter in law Karen and 12 year old grandson, Bruno.
Their sons have also arranged a visit to a top London show and overnight stay later in the year.
A congratulatory telegram was also received by the couple, from the Queen.
