PLANS to build a £150m motoring museum in West Oxfordshire have been deferred.

The Driving Centre, which would be based at Enstone Airfield, was discussed at a meeting of West Oxfordshire District Council's Development Control Committee yesterday.

Councillors expressed concerns over the impact of traffic on local roads, with the museum expected to attract up to 200,000 visitors each year.

Parish councils were against the plans, with residents submitting 180 letters of objection.

The decision has now been deferred until the applicant provides extra information.

The project has been spearheaded by Peter W Mullin, an American classic car collector and philanthropist.

Plans were initially withdrawn in June after they attracted 250 objections, before the museum was redesigned by renowned architect Norman Foster and resubmitted.

The revised application has, according to Mr Mullin, diverted funds from the restoration of Tew Park so that £1.7m can be spent on projects benefiting the community.
