THE arrival of spring was seen in with vibrant celebrations at an Oxford venue.

Oxford Hindu Temple and Community Centre Project marked the ancient Hindu festival of Holi, which signifies the start of the spring season.

Members of the community including Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds joined the party Rose Hill Community Centre on Saturday, for an afternoon of music, food, dance and craft.

Attendees also enjoyed kite-making activities to mark the Basant Kite Festival, a celebration in the Punjab region which also marks the beginning of spring.

As well as Holi and Basant the event was also staged in the name of Nowruz, the traditional Iranian festival of spring.

The community centre in Carole’s Way set up a stage to accommodate musicians, which was decorated with daffodils and colourful garlands.

Ms Dodds tweeted on Saturday: "Well done to all involved in today’s Holi, Basant and Nowroz celebrations.

"Wonderful to welcome in spring, with people from so many of Oxford’s diverse communities."
