A PRIVATE physiotherapy clinic is taking advantage of 'poor NHS provision' in Oxfordshire to expand.

Wantage-based Progressive Physiotherapy, which currently operates a clinic service, has applied for planning permission to open a centre in nearby East Challow.

The company states in its application: "We are continuing to expand, in part due to the recent poor provision of NHS Physiotherapy in the local area."

NHS physiotherapy was cut from Wantage Community Hospital in 2017 after the contract for the service in Oxfordshire was handed to a private company, though it was announced last month the service would be reinstated at Wantage in some form.

Despite that, Progressive Physiotherapy is still hoping to grow its business in the new building on Faringdon Road.

In its submission to Vale of White Horse District Council i: "The building in question would perfectly suit our needs and allow us room to grow and provide much needed local Physiotherapy to the community.

"We are also looking to build on our Neurological and Women’s Health Physiotherapy. These premises are single storey with disabled access and parking both of which are essential for our patients."
