BROKEN road signs in Frideswide Square are contributing to the area’s rundown appearance.
In 2015 Oxfordshire County Council gave the square, which features the entrance to Oxford rail station, a £6.7m makeover.

The following year contractors were forced to return on several occasions to fix paving damaged by vehicles.
But the radical design, which allows drivers and pedestrians to ‘share space’ by giving each other priority without the assistance of traffic lights, has proved a success.
However, some traffic signs at either end of the square have been damaged.

Yesterday, about a year after the Oxford Mail first highlighted the issue, the signs, situated on traffic islands, remained in a collapsed state.
It appears that the signs were damaged when they were hit by vehicles and they may need to be replaced, costing the taxpayer. The county council has been contacted for comment.
