FIREFIGHTERS were scrambled to a care home after a fire took hold and smoke billowed through the corridors.
It happened at Saxon Court retirement flats in Wessex Way yesterday shortly before 9am.
Two fire engines were called and crews said due to ‘effective management procedures’ in place nobody was injured.

Incident commander watch manager Pete Mackay said: “This incident proves the value of premises having a clear plan to deal with a fire and the safety of residents, as well as the working built in fire safety measures.
"This prevented what could have been a much more significant fire."
