TENS of thousands of preened dogs were paraded at Crufts this weekend, with two Oxfordshire winners stealing the show.

Dave the boxer dog from Banbury was a finalist in the main event yesterday, having won his category - the working group - on Friday.

He missed out on first place in Best in Show but won the public vote on Twitter, with many tweeting that he had been 'robbed' of the title.

Award-winning basset griffon vendeen Magic Mike, from Wallingford, won his hound category and was named 'reserve Best in Show' yesterday, meaning he was runner-up in the final.

Best in Show was won by a papillon named Dylan, but several people who viewed the show on Channel 4 said they felt Dave deserved the crown.

Crufts invited people to tweet their favourites ahead of the winner being announced, and Dave won the public vote with almost 50 per cent of the votes.

Almost 21,000 dogs competed over the four days for one of just seven places in the Crufts final.

The final was broadcast live on Channel 4 from the NEC in Birmingham and presided over by judge Dan Ericsson.

Mr Ericsson said: "I was spoilt for choice but my eyes were drawn to this beautiful dog that has everything you look for in the breed, plus personality."
