THE Archbishop of Canterbury looked on as a Dame Veronica Wedgwood declared a new building at Oxford University's St Hugh's College open in 1966.
Dame Veronica, who also went by the title of CV Wedgwood, was a well-renowned historian, but appears to be daydreaming somewhat at this moment – perhaps of the idea of England winning the World Cup – which would happen just weeks after the opening.
The picture, taken by Peter Smith, also shows archbishop Michael Ramsey, who retired to Oxford and died in the city.
The facility itself is believed to be the Kenyon Building, though a representative from St Hugh's said he was not certain that it was that building.
