ROADWORKS as part of a new co-op supermarket build are set to last nearly three months, drivers have been warned.

The crew building the Midcounties Co-operative shop in Southmoor now expect to be digging up Faringdon Road for a total of 57 'working days', starting this month.

With five working days a week, that could see works dragging on for more than 11 weeks.

In a submission to Vale of White Horse District Council, the scheme's designers, Oxford Architects, said the works included investigating drainage, connecting to sewers and diverting cables.

It is not known whether the Midcounties is reconsidering having a cash machine at the shop, after one at the new Co-op store down the road in Kingston Bagpuize was stolen in a raid on March 1.

The Midcounties said in its original planning application: "An ATM is also proposed next to the

entrance with a good view from the road, for visibility and security purposes."

However since that was submitted there has been a string of cash machine raids across Oxfordshire, with some shops not bothering to replace theirs.
