A MOTORBIKE rider who was involved in a crash in which a cyclist died could face prosecution it has been revealed.

Jurij Odinocenko, of Brookside Court , Woodstock, died in October when he was struck head-on in the collision at the junction with Sturdy's Castle pub on the A4260, Banbury Road near Kidlington.

Despite the efforts of paramedics he died at the scene.

An inquest into the death of the married 63-year-old was scheduled to take place yesterday, however that has now been delayed as prosecutors decide whether to bring charges against the motorcyclist.

Speaking at a pre-inquest review yesterday Oxford Coroner Darren Salter said a post mortem examination revealed the mechanical engineer died of multiple injuries.

The motorbike rider sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment.

Mr Salter said: "When the case was opened it was listed for today but the reason it is not taking place is because there is an ongoing police investigation."

He added: "The CPS will make a decision whether there is to be a prosecution in respect of the motorcyclist involved in the collision with Mr Odinocenko."

Mr Salter explained that if charges were brought and the case heard in a criminal court then there would not be a need for an inquest.
