MORE than 40 used syringes have been found in an underground car park in the centre of Oxford.

An inspection of Gloucester Green by police and council staff earlier today uncovered the huge stash in a drain next to where people's cars were parked.

Oxford Mail:

Thames Valley Police Oxford said it was part of a operation to address anti-social behaviour in the area.

Officers were pictured disposing of the needles in a sharps bin.

Oxford Mail:

Oxford's new drugs taskforce has been carrying out several needle clean-ups recently in a bid to clean up areas known to be connected to drug use.

In east Oxford last month more than 20 discarded needles were found in a church yard and near a children's play area.

Other measures have included removing benches and cutting back foliage to deter drug users.
