THAMES Valley Police have kickstarted Rural Crime Week with a string of prevention tips on keeping land and livestock safe.

Rural crime is criminal damage, or threat of, to any agricultural machinery, tools, oil and livestock.

In a bid to tackle crime in the suburbs, the force took to Twitter to explain that when this type of crime goes unreported it can impact on insurance premiums, food prices and damage local communities.

The week of rural crime comes after a horse was killed on Oxford ring road after a crime wave in a city suburb.

It explained that until the end of the week, on March 8, it will be 'undertaking action to tackle rural crime' across the three counties.

The force also urged victims to dial 999.
