FIREFIGHTERS were scrambled to a house after a pan overheated on a cooker - filling the home with smoke.

Two fire engines from Bicester Fire Station were called to the house in Heron Drive in the town, after a monitored smoke alarm went off.

No one was home at the time of the blaze, at around 11.30am on Saturday.

Fire crews inspected the building and found smoke in the ground floor kitchen. They switched off the gas supply, used specialist breaking-in equipment to enter, and removed an overheating pan on the stove.

A high pressure fan was then used to remove the smoke from the property.

Incident Commander, Watch Manager Pete Mackay from Bicester Fire Station said: "This highlights the need to be aware of the dangers of leaving cooking unattended, closing doors in your property especially when out, and the importance of having working smoke alarms in your property.

Oxford Mail:

"In this instance, having a linked smoke alarm saved the property from significant damage by raising the alarm, and we were able to act swiftly and prevent what could have been a serious fire."
