FIRE crews were called to a home in Bicester last night after the stopcock broke apart and water began pouring into the property.

Firefighters from Bicester and a specialist unit from Eynsham worked with Thames Water thruugh the early hours to protect as much of the property as possible before the deluge of water could be stopped.

The occupant had to be re-housed by the housing association, Sanctuary Housing, who manage the property.

A fire service spokesman said: "Knowing where to isolate your services is always useful, and whilst in this case was not possible, allows you a better chance to minimise damage should the worst happen."
