As part of the public spaces protection order (PSPO) introduced in Oxford city centre from February 2016, people were banned from doing things listed below until it lapsed at the end of last month:

  • ‘Aggressive begging’. That including begging next to a cash machine or begging ‘in a manner reasonably received to be intimidating or aggressive’.

96 people given ‘advice’; no fixed penalty notices issued; no prosecutions

  • Staying in public toilets ‘without reasonable excuse’

​1 person given ‘advice’; no fixed penalty notices issued; one prosecution (Gabriel Chamberlain. The 45-year-old, of no fixed address, was fined £80 and banned from much of Oxford City Centre.)

  • Urinating and/or defecating in a public place

Two people given ‘advice’; no fixed penalty notices issues; no prosecutions

  • Cycling in Queen Street and/or Cornmarket Street in times outside 6pm to 10am

661 people given ‘advice’; no fixed penalty notices issued; no prosecutions

  • Performing street entertainment that ‘causes a nuisance to nearby premises or members of the public’

18 people given ‘advice’; no fixed penalty notices; no prosecutions

  • People peddling goods being banned from remaining in places for certain times

154 people given ‘advice’; four fixed penalty notices issued; no prosecutions

  • Drinking alcohol in a public place

18 people given ‘advice’; no fixed penalty notices issued; no prosecutions

  • People being in charge of a dog and:

failing to keep them on a lead and under physical control at all times

or found to be in charge of more than four dogs at the same time whilst in a public place

or allowing a dog to foul in a public place and then not clearing it up

or allowing a dog to enter any covered public space
