The Stert Street shop also made it onto the shortlist last year but failed to move on to the final awards, with only one store from each regional category able to compete at the ceremony in May for best in the UK.

Sarah Dennis, who took over the popular shop two years ago, said staff were 'extremely excited' to be nominated for a second year in a row.

Since taking over there has been a revamp of the inside of the book shop, including a mural in the children’s reading area by local illustrator David Melling, as well as closer work with local schools and more author events.
