CURRENT Mini plant workers dropped in to leave their marks on a little piece of history yesterday.

An Oxford-built Mini Cooper S Hatch has been loaned by the plant to an exhibition being held at the Templars Square Shopping Centre in Cowley this week.

Adorned with special 60th anniversary number plates and a logo, visitors are being invited to sign their names on the car as Oxford marks six decades since the first Minis rolled off the production line.

Jeremy Stoyle, finance director at Mini plant Oxford, was one of the first to write his signature along with assembly worker Graeme Parsons and apprentice Jack Martin.

Mr Stoyle said: “Oxford is the home of Mini and so it’s fantastic for us to support this display in the heart of Cowley.

"I hope as many people as possible can come and sign the car and share their Mini memories in our 60th anniversary year.”

The car is one of ten Minis on display, spanning its iconic history since 1959.

Others being featured include a 1959 Austin Seven Mini - one of the first made - and a 1969 Riley Elf.

The exhibition is free to attend and members of the public are invited to sign the car and take photographs while it is open this week from 8am until 6pm until Saturday.

On Thursday, former Cowley workers who were involved with the classic Mini during its development and production at Cowley are invited to come to the display between 10.30am and 3.30pm and be interviewed.
