A TRIAL into the alleged burglary of a former Tory MP's Oxford home has collapsed after jurors failed to reach a verdict.

Benjamin Strong, of Aldrich Road, Oxford, stands accused of breaking into the address at Winchester Road, Oxford, sometime between July 18 and August 23, 2017.

Prosecutors during his trial at Oxford Crown Court had claimed that the 20-year old raided the house before spraying graffiti on the walls and drinking beer from the kitchen.

Strong denies any involvement in the alleged burglary.

Jurors during his trial were sent out to deliberate and decide on their verdicts shortly before midday on Monday morning.

The panel deliberated for exactly six hours before they were asked if they were able to reach a verdict in the case.

It then became clear that jurors were unable to reach a decision in the trial which began last week, and so with no verdict forthcoming the panel of jurors were discharged by presiding Judge Zoe Smith.

A further hearing will be held at the same court on February 28 to determine whether or not there will be a retrial in the case.

Strong continues to deny any wrong-doing in connection with the incident.
