RESIDENTS received potentially lifesaving defibrillator training after a Woodstock pre-school raised £3,500 to install the device.

WUFA, a charity pre-school, held a free session last Monday to increase the number of people in the community trained to use the device, on Recreation Road.

Installing the defibrillator became a personal mission for pre-school manager, Kate Bailey, after a friend passed away in 2017.

She said: "Had a defibrillator been around he would still be here today.

"A lot of people say it's never going to happen to them but that's not always true."

About 30,000 people are struck by sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital environments in Britain each year.

Immediate treatment boosts the chance of survival, which is why WUFA fundraised throughout last year, holding events including cake sales, plant shops and a raffle.

Various charities, including Woodstock Freemasons and Flowers Estate Agents, Woodstock, helped boost the project.

There is already a defibrillator by Woodstock fire station, but that is almost half a mile from the pre-school.

WUFA is a non-profit making organisation and has catered for children aged two to 11 for more than 30 years.

There are currently 34 two-to-five-year-olds enrolled in its pre-school, with 81 children using its breakfast and after school clubs throughout the week.
