CHILDREN from the Springfield School in Witney were given a police motorcycle escort through the town when they went for a ride in their brand new minibus in November 1983.

The minibus was a specially converted van with seats for 11 passengers and space for a wheelchair.

It was the climax of many months of fundraising efforts by the school’s parent teacher association, who also had the support of the Witney Round Table and local members of the Police Federation.

A formal presentation of the minibus was made to the school jointly by former chairman of the PTA, Mrs Pat Holborow and the chairman at the time, Mr John Ryan.
